Investment In Our Future

In February 2023, New Hampshire Humane Society purchased 23 acres adjacent to its Laconia facility. The land was being sought by a developer which would have limited future expansion opportunities. New Hampshire Humane is relied upon by 17 municipalities as well as hundreds of animals each year. The loss of the property would have made expansion of services impossible. This is a great stride for the organization and mission while also allowing an opportunity to be stewards of the natural assets surrounding the campus. From Executive Director, Charles Stanton, "The organization is healthy thanks to the many people who support this important mission. I am so proud that we are able to protect the environment and ensure a strong future for this organization and mission."  While formalized plans are yet to be announced, this additional land offers the possibility of expanding to meet the needs of livestock, welcoming additional municipalities, and making the campus more accessible to the public with dog-friendly walking trails.

New Retail Space: Wayward NorthEast

In the Fall of 2022, New Hampshire Humane Society made the decision to repurpose an underutilized space and turn it into a small retail shop. The new shop, called Wayward NorthEast, houses local and national brands with  focus on pets and home goods. 100% of the proceeds benefit the mission of the Humane Society and the entire pet adoption process. The shop also created valuable connections to compassionate brands that support animal welfare like Beekman 1802, Karma Gifts, Gentleman's Hardware, Golden Ampersand Antiques, and Homesick Candle Company. Not only a way to generate revenue for the organization, the shop also brings the community to the Humane Society campus in a new way. From Deb McNeish, Board President, "We love the idea that our campus is more accessible to people in a new way. This offers more opportunities to serve the community and to have foot traffic so pets are seen more regularly."  The shop is open Friday - Sunday 11-4pm or by appointment.
